((I’ve half-explored that in stuff I’ve never posted with Hlenil! He was really into mental health and healing and probably would’ve become the equivalent of a therapist, if his own self-destructive depression hadn’t spiralled out of control. Kind of wish I’d focused more on that, because you’re right, it’s a really interesting area with huge implications which people don’t consider very often.))

((Also my guess is that the response in Tamriel would generally be to label someone with mental health issues as a Sheogorath worshipper and dismiss them, so that the only way they’d ever get help or support would be from a cultist or a priest determined to “convert” them, neither of which I see ending well.))

((Also also, this is why I really liked the ideas behind the Shivering Isles DLC in Oblivion.))

[That’s also an idea too, esp in more Daedra-worshipping areas (like Vvardenfell o.o). I actually was trying to figure out how Sheo would fit into all of this, if he’s actually responsible for mental illnesses or if he’s just an embodiment of it? I mean people struggle with mental illness just fine on their own in the real world, whether it develops over their experiences/trauma in life, something physical gets hecked up, or if they’re born with it.

The Shivering Isles I personally saw as a safe place for people who had severe mental illnesses, where they could be relatively safe from neurotypical people (though I didn’t think of it in those words when I first played lmao that was a long time ago), so now that…that brings a lot to mind and I need to write down notes for later lmao

But yeah someone calling J’hasi a Sheo worshipper and tryna convert him would not end well lmao. Firstly he’s never talked to Sheo (far as he knows) and second he’s not interested in your Imperial religion whatever crap seeya. Religion-based therapy wouldn’t work with him bc he’d be so busy being frustrated over the Imperial doctrine of whatever that he’d get little help out of it.]

[I know that the Temple in Vvardenfell dealt with the dreams that Dagoth Ur sent from Red Mountain (‘soul sickness’, or having the nightmares, or ending up like dreamers, speaking nonsense or what have you from what I remember), so maybe that’s where mental illnesses are more touched on, in the Temple, the Imperial Cult, and other local religious sects. How effective is probably up for debate but hey it’s a start.

It would make sense too because more frequently noticed mental illnesses would be like pstd or trauma-induced in some way, which…most people would take someone who’s been seriously hurt to the nearest Temple/Chapel/etc to be healed, so it would make sense for the healers at these places to at least have some knowledge/training with it.]

boarchasers replied to your post : Your character meets themselves as they were when…

((Yes good. This gave me a little shiver to read; poor J’hasi needs a hug.))

[He honestly needs therapy but uh…not sure how prevalent that is in TES!verse ;w;]

Your character meets themselves as they were when you first started writing here.

Alternatively, if you haven’t been around as long or don’t feel your character is different enough, they meet themselves as a child or teenager.

It had to be a dream.

He was in Black Marsh, on the outskirts of where he was allowed to wander from the tribe as a hatchling. He could even smell Jeer’s scent nearby, a comforting scent that he’d long missed, fireflies occasionally flickering in and out of sight…

Wait…

There was a small, mud-splattered patch of black fur at the shore of one of the deeper parts of the swamp, one that he was specifically forbidden to enter. J’hasi approached the small Khajiit quietly, crouching down and watching the shimmer of scarce sunlight flickering over its murky surface with them, though the smaller ball of fur had their face buried in their arms folded over their knees, the barest gleam of green obscured by the mess of dirty mane. J’hasi shifted, then sat down fully, keeping quiet for now. He almost started a little when the Khajiit finally spoke.

“<You smell funny.>” J’hasi huffed out a small laugh, barely there.

“<Howso?>”

“<Like me, but not. Why’re you here?>” J’hasi swallowed, looking at the fading flickers of lights, a few brave fireflies skirting the water’s surface.

“<Don’t know. Dreaming, maybe.>” Not like any dream he’d had before, this one was far too calm and…weird… The smaller Khajiit rocked a little from side to side, quiet before finally lifting their head, and yeah, that was definitely the face he’d seen back in his days as a hatchling, those features he’d hated then, covered with mud and cursed. Back when he was called Gee-Ei.

“<I have dreams. Scary ones. Fere’s somethin’ following me, and it wants t’eat me up. I don’t like ffem.>” J’hasi swallowed again, recalling those nightmares as well, though a little less detail, more vague. But that feeling of terror remained firmly implanted in his memories.

“<I did too. Still do.>” There was almost a…ripple in the dream, like something had disturbed the surface of a puddle, and when he looked over again, Ei had grown, more scared-looking, fidgeting more out of fear than uncertainty, fur filthy but in a different way, and wearing a single shirt rather than the woven knots and cloth of the tribe.

“<M’scared. Really, really, really scared. I want t’go home, I miss Jeer, I miss Sees, I wanna go home.>” J’hasi tried to swallow past the knot in his throat but couldn’t, wanting to comfort the distressed…them, him, from back then, but not knowing how. Another ripple and Ei was older still, even thinner, even more scared, but with that firm defiant edge, that anger he could even feel from here, the scraps he’d worn in the Imperial City all those years ago, thin and useless against the cold winters’ bite. Being stared at like that…J’hasi shivered a little. Ei’s eyes were hard, muzzle wrinkled, twitching a little, even as the sheen of tears gathered in their eyes. And then the next ripple made everything seem cold, dark, Ei vanishing without a trace.

J’hasi shivered, seeing his breath ghost out into the air, a little scared now… He froze in place when he saw those eyes flickering in the dark, that heavy breathing, that huge, dark shape before it growled, then darted towards him. Teeth bared, going right for his throat and biting down and blood and-

The Khajiit’s limbs darted out to fight against the massive wolf that wasn’t there, his hands striking stone at full force and making him curl up and hiss in pain, his fingers trembling. His breathing was shaky, ragged, but he could smell the lack of blood, could smell the scents of the Hall of Attainment, the mix of cold stone, people, fur, straw, books, and per usual, a hint of something burning. Not a hint of wolf, or blood, or…

He was crying.

J’hasi hissed out a small curse in Jel, swiping over his eyes before pushing himself upright, still shaky but…he had to get up. Take a walk. Something. Just…as soon as he got control of his fucking emotions again…

11, 17 & 19?

11. How are they vocally expressive? What kind of voice, accent, tones, inflections, volume, phrases and slang, and manner of speaking do they use?

J’hasi’s fairly quiet until he feels somewhat comfortable in the setting, or if he feels strongly enough about the situation to speak out. Around friends or if he gets excited/interested, he loosens up and talks a bit more. His voice is fairly high pitchwise, only dropping low when he wants to intimidate or if he’s not happy about the situation, or the people around. Rarely he drops low if he’s keeping his voice quieter to talk to a friend privately, but it’s not as low as when he’s upset or trying to threaten. His overall volume is a little on the quiet side unless he’s excited (louder) or if he’s trying to make a point, his speech firm and volume a bit louder, obviously loud if he has to yell to get his point through to someone. When he’s really pissed and trying to threaten someone, he’ll drop his voice a little quieter, because people seem to listen more when you’re quieter for some reason.

His voice is rougher if he’s pissed off or if he’s drunk, tired, or just got up, and smoother when he’s happy or trying to calm someone down. He talks a little too fast when he gets excited, and he tends to stammer when he’s anxious. He tends to speak in an overall formal, restrained fashion when he’s first meeting people, occasionally breaking out into phrases like ‘thing’, ‘kinda’, and ‘-ish’ when he can’t quite remember the words for the specific term he wants to use. He relaxes a little more around people he’s met before, or friends, and tends to contract his speech like ‘d’you’, or ‘m’not’. Always contracts when introducing himself properly, ‘m’name’s J’hasi’, which is how his friend who taught him Cyrodilic talked. Also uses more ‘complicated’ or ‘higher class’ vocabulary on occasion when he usually speaks like a commoner, similar to his Dunmeris, which I’ll get to in a sec. It’s not an attempt to sound fancy, but just picking out the words that are close enough to portraying what he wants to say. Cyrodilic is hard.

He has a slight Dunmeris accent in his speech, worsening when he gets drunk. His Dunmeris is unaccented, sounding native Vvardenfell to most outsiders, while native Dunmer can tell that he’s not native, but spent a significant amount of time there. His speech is a little odd, sounding commoner overall, but then you get these odd bits of formal, higher class and that throws some people off.

Jel is his native tongue, but he has a slight speech impediment. Anyone who’s native to Black Marsh can understand him, and can tell that he has more of the ‘inner marsh (tribal)’ dialect, which sounds more alien and difficult to understand to those who learned Jel as a second language, or other such outsiders. To those who learned it as a second language, good luck understanding him x__x

17. Are they more shaped by nature or nurture — who they are, or what has happened to them? How have these shaped who they’ve become as a person?

Thankfully, his nature has largely prevailed over nuture. He’s always had a temper, always been a little fiery, but deep down he’s sweet, gentle, kind, and sensitive. While the sensitive bit helps him to be extremely compassionate, it also means that he hurts a lot more when he’s hurt, and man did he have a lot of that growing up and even into adulthood. His nurturing from the few good people he’s met along the way helped mitigate some of the awful shit he’s been through, but the bad shit has left him guarded, mistrustful, and slow to warm up to people.

It’s a defense mechanism, appearing difficult to approach, baring his teeth outright to people that are aggressive, while deflecting other, less aggressive and friendly types with humor or indifference. He winds up hurting himself in the process, as he does get incredibly fucking lonely, but oh no being close to someone means vulnerability, WELL WE CAN’T RISK THAT.

TL;DR him heart hurt ez so let’s keep up walls so nothing can get in! Haha what avoidance behavior?!

19. How do they behave within a group? What role(s) do they take? Does this differ if they know and trust the group, versus finding themselves in a group of strangers? Why?

I feel like I’ve answered this question before, but more or less J’hasi is the quiet one in the group, choosing to listen and watch over speaking unless he’s close with those in the group. Not sure what’s meant by ‘role’, but in a group of strangers he’s the one who leaves first to head straight to the bar, or to leave entirely. Being around people takes energy, and if he doesn’t know them, then he’s not going to waste his energy unless he can get something he wants out of it, either information or something equally valuable.

In a group of friends he’s the one that tends to chill and listen, speaking when spoken to or if he has something to add to the conversation. Being around friends either takes very little energy, no energy, or can even give him some, depending on the friends, so he’ll stick around until people start to leave or if he needs to go do something else.

★  When did I create my blog: Ages ago, at least 2-3 years? Maybe more, I’d have to check. My first blog on Tumblr was about 4-5 years ago.

What kind of stuff do i post about: J’hasi. Other RP blogs are other charas of mine, and their adventures. My main is pretty much anything I think is neat or useful or news stuff, but I’ve been restricting my time on there because politics has been a major source of stress on me lately.

★  Do I have any other blogs: I have my main reblog blog, my art blog, my personal journaling blog, and a shitton of RP blogs. TES mainly, but I have a Fallout and Pokemon rp blog as well.

★  Do i get asks regularly: Whenever I manage to login after long periods of time I have them, else whenever I reblog a meme I’ll get a couple.

★  Why did i choose my url: I had to remake J’hasi’s blog and while I miss the keysmash url, I don’t want people from the bad times finding me again, so I just picked the first one that popped into my head. J’hasi’s annoyed about the ‘cat’ bit but he’s okay with it otherwise.

★  Gender: Agender af, mildly genderfluid at times I’ve noticed.

★  Pokémon Go team: I still have to pick out my first Pokemon. Not sure I can play it because my mum is the only one allowed to use data on our plan.

kagrenacs:

I like to think the detect life spell is often used by healers to see how fast a person is fading or if there’s any life still left in them. If a person is healthy their glow is intense, if they’re hanging on by a thread the glow is dim.

It’s also used for checking areas where a large mass of people died in order to see if anyone’s unconscious but still alive, or areas that aren’t easily accessible/dangerous so nobody else has to die.

[J’hasi could make for a decent pirate. Just has to get rid of all those pesky ‘morals’ he’s got.]

[I like how J’hasi can go from looking like someone you don’t want to cross, to being friend-shaped, to just being drunk af and confused as to why he’s even here lmao]
