Flash Forward

The Khajiit’s ear pricked, hearing someone running up the wooden stairs outside only moments before the door slammed open, startling the rest of the patrons. The scent of iron and salt bit at his nose, fear and sweat reaching him from the bar not long after, as well as a familiar scent… His brows rose a little, hearing the thump of a body hitting the floor behind him. It couldn’t be…

“P-please. …p-please help me…” J’hasi turned, surprised to see the Thalmor whelp, soaked to the bone, splattered with mud, and an arrow in his shoulder. The Altmeris outside caused them both to start a little, the Khajiit quickly trying to gauge the situation. His throat tightened at the sight of Thalmor agents bursting into the doorway, his claws digging into the label of his bottle. The smart thing to do would be to just let it slide, ignore them, let them take that little bastard away and let himself drink in peace.

But…

J’hasi’s ears flattened, grimacing as he closed his eyes, drawing up his hood slowly as he heard the mer’s terrified pleas, hearing the shaking in the Altmeris he barely understood, but the tone… He drew his scarf up over his mouth and nose, looking up at the innkeeper with a silent apology before standing up, hand sliding to grasp the haft of his spear.

Stupid fetcher had to make things difficult for him, even now.
